Donation to the Columbia Falls Community

Columbia Falls Community Foundation Donation

Whitefish, Mont. – June 14, 2019 – Whitefish Credit Union, Montana’s largest credit union with over 55,000 members and $1.5 billion in assets, donated $5,000 to the Columbia Falls Community Foundation to build two new monument signs welcoming residents and visitors alike to downtown Columbia Falls.

The Columbia Falls Community Foundation is dedicated to enhancing physical spaces throughout the Columbia Falls community. Its Nucleus Avenue monument signage project was over two years in the making. Nucleus Avenue is Columbia Falls’ main street, running through the center of downtown. In recent years, the Columbia Falls community has experienced a surge of investment in new businesses and residential projects with the downtown area being a special focus of revitalization efforts.

“We are proud to help establish new signage for downtown Columbia Falls,” said Michael Burr, Branch Manager of the Columbia Falls branch of Whitefish Credit Union. “As a long-time member of this community, we are honored and excited to support its revitalization and continued growth.”

The two new monument signs, weighing about twenty tons each, describe the character of Columbia Falls and its place in the Flathead Valley with one saying, “Historic Downtown, Adventure Lives Here,” and the other, “Nucleus District, Gateway to Glacier.” For decades, a large arch had greeted visitors and announced Columbia Falls to travelers passing through to visit Glacier National Park. However, the arch came down sometime before Nucleus Avenue was rebuilt in 1981 and was not replaced until the Columbia Falls Community Foundation installed new monument signs this past month.
